I had a wonderful morning running a session for the Year 6s at Hotwells Primary School in Bristol where we created Fajitas filled with tasty and nutritious vegetables and used the session to discuss tastes, smells, textures and colours of foods and how they can be described.
Matt Edwards, the Year 6 teacher, then took the descriptive phrases the pupils had come up with and helped the pupils to use them in writing reviews of the school canteen.
It was such an enjoyable session, particularly because the school staff, Anne- Marie from the BBC and the parent helpers from the school were all so helpful and welcoming. My particular thanks also go to Jenny Chandler of The Plum Cooking Company who helped organise the session, took photos and bent over backwards to help me on the day.
Please do have a listen http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05zg70h
(my section starts at 16:30) and do get in contact if you feel I could inspire your school pupils by running a similar session.
